Four Pakistani soldiers were killed by unidentified attackers from Iran in Kech district, southwestern Balochistan province, according to a statement by the Pakistani army. The attack occurred on the border of the long lawless province, which shares borders with Afghanistan and Iran. No one has claimed responsibility for the attack, but Baluch groups on both sides of the border have claimed responsibility for previous attacks. Baluch nationalists are fighting for more control of the resource-rich region. Balochistan is also home to the deep-water Gawadar port, being developed with Chinese investment under the Belt and Road initiative. Pakistani authorities are in talks with Iran to prevent similar incidents in the future.
