The Czech Republic is a landlocked country in Central Europe that became part of the European Union and the Schengen Area in 2007. With a population of 10.7 million people, it is a popular tourist destination due to its fairytale-like architecture, especially in cities like Prague. In 2017, over 20 million people visited the country, and the Czech consulates around the world received 623,255 visa applications. Non-EU nationals must present a valid passport or travel document, a valid visa (if required), travel medical insurance covering their stay in Czechia and Europe, and proof of sufficient funds for their intended stay. The Czech Ministry of the Interior estimates that visitors to the country must attest to having 42€ for each day they plan to stay there. They may also be asked about the purpose and duration of their visit, among other questions. As a member of the Schengen zone, visitors may require a Czech Schengen visa, depending on their nationality and purpose of entry. Visa application requirements vary by type, but mandatory documents include a visa application form, two identical passport photos, a valid passport with two blank pages, copies of previous visas, a round-trip flight itinerary, and proof of accommodation and financial means. Additional requirements may apply based on employment status, and for minors travelling to the Czech Republic with parental authorization.
