The Kaghan-Naran road in Pakistan has been closed to all types of traffic due to a huge glacier outburst. The National Highway Authority (NHA) is currently working to remove glaciers and clean the road rapidly at Chitta Katha on Naran Road. Another big glacier at Guriya Chinch Naran is also blocking the route, and work will begin after its cleaning. Tourists are advised to avoid travelling to the hilly resorts in Kaghan and Naran until further notice. The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Tourism Department, Rescue 1122, police, and Kaghan Development Authority are working to ensure the safety of tourists in the area. Naran is Pakistan’s most visited resort, with around 1.5 million people visiting it every year. The UN agency has warned that the world’s glaciers melted at dramatic speed last year, and saving them is effectively a lost cause due to record levels of greenhouse gases causing planetary scale changes on land, in the ocean, and in the atmosphere.
