Silversea Cruises and MEYER WERF have hosted a keel laying ceremony for Silver Ray, the second ship in Silversea’s Nova class. The 728-guest ship is scheduled to enter service in 2024 and will be one of the most sustainable in its class. The keel laying ceremony was held at the shipyard in Papenburg, Germany and was attended by select travel advisors. A commemorative coin was placed under a pre-assembled module, a tradition believed to bring good luck. The Nova class is the first to feature an asymmetrical design and horizontal layout, with public spaces and suites spanning the entire length of each ship. The class has been designed to meet the needs of net-zero emissions cruising. Silver Nova, the first ship in the class, is nearing completion at the MEYER WERFT shipyard and is scheduled to join Silversea’s fleet this summer.
