Chinese Foreign Minister Qin Gang is set to visit Pakistan from May 5 to 6 to hold strategic talks with the country’s top officials, according to media reports. During his trip, Qin is also expected to attend a trilateral meeting involving Afghanistan to discuss regional situations. This comes as the United Nations Security Council granted an exception to the travel ban on Afghanistan’s interim foreign minister, Amir Khan Muttaqi, to meet with foreign ministers of Pakistan and China in Islamabad. Both China and Pakistan have expressed openness to including Taliban-led Afghanistan in the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor infrastructure project. The Taliban took power in Afghanistan in August 2021 after US withdrawal from the country.
