Informed Omani sources said that the visit of Sultan of Oman Haitham bin Tariq to Qatar was essentially an economic trip which had been preceded by several team meetings and a long-time advance advance preparation.
Analysts pointed out that Muscat, which is facing an acute economic crisis compounded by the fluctuation of oil prices and the repercussions of the COVID-19 pandemic, feels an urgent need to find solutions to its crisis and sees in Qatar a possible source of help.
The analysts noted that Sultan Haitham’s visit to Doha was part of a region-wide search for support, which began earlier with a trip to Saudi Arabia, last July.
They added that the sultanate is betting on Gulf ties to overcome its economic crisis. Thus it was Sultan Haitham who initiated the warming of relations between his country and other Gulf Cooperation Council states.
