Lionel Messi has been suspended by Paris Saint-Germain for two weeks and is expected to leave the club at the end of the season after taking an unauthorised trip to Saudi Arabia. The visit forms part of Messi’s contractual obligations as an ambassador for Saudi Arabia but was not sanctioned by either manager Christophe Galtier or sporting advisor Luís Campos. The player’s absence was reportedly a topic of lengthy discussion in the PSG dressing room, with some players said to be “shocked”. PSG’s response was reportedly swift and Messi is now banned from the club’s training facilities and docked pay. On Twitter, Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Tourism, Ahmed Al Khateeb, shared pictures of Messi with his wife Antonela Roccuzzo and two of his sons, Ciro and Mateo, during their trip.
