Saudi Arabia has unveiled plans to develop 315,000 new hotel rooms at a cost of $37.8bn by 2030 to boost its travel, tourism, and hospitality industries as it seeks to diversify its economy from oil. The initiative will take the nation’s total hotel room count to almost 450,000. The push towards domestic tourism is critical for the success of its hospitality and tourism sectors, with 65% of Saudi Arabians currently travelling within the country. Saudi Arabia is aiming to become one of the world’s leading tourist markets, with giga-projects, such as the futuristic city of Neom driving the supply pipeline.
