Christmas in Vietnam is celebrated by families of all religions who gather for gift exchanges and a special dinner. The Christian community attends midnight mass and returns home to indulge in chicken soup or for the wealthy, turkey and Christmas pudding. Christmas Eve is especially popular in HCMC and Hanoi where the areas around Catholic cathedrals become pedestrian zones for the evening. Cars are banned, and the streets fill with young Vietnamese families who share in the celebrations and goodwill from the holiday.
