Vietnam saw a huge surge in foreign tourist arrivals in the first quarter of 2023, with 2.69 million visitors arriving, up 29.7 times year on year, according to the country’s General Statistics Office. Most of the visitors came by air, while travel businesses earned VND6.8tn ($290m), a 2.2 times jump over 2022. The numbers are expected to continue to rise following the approval of the strongest visa policy ever and the return of Chinese tourists. The country’s tourism sector has a target of serving 110 million tourists, including 8 million foreign holidaymakers, and bringing in $27.6bn of revenue this year.
