Vietnam received 4.28 million foreign arrivals in Q1 2019, up 7% year on year, with China remaining the biggest market despite a 3.3% decline in numbers. Other countries that saw visits rise included South Korea (+24.1%), Japan (+8.2%), Taiwan (+15.6%), Russia (+9.8%), Malaysia (+12.6%), and Thailand (+42.2%). According to the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, most of the foreign visitors, 89.8%, travelled by air. The tourism sector has set a target of serving 110 million tourists, including some eight million foreign visitors, with revenue of approximately VND650tn ($27.67bn) in 2019.
