Vietnam welcomed 3.7 million foreign tourists in the first four months of 2021, with over 980,000 international travelers in April alone. The country’s tourism industry saw a 9.9% rise from the previous month and 9.7 times higher than the same period last year, led by South Korea with one million visitors, followed by the US with 263,000 and China with 252,000 travelers. The number of Chinese tourists rose sharply by 61.5% in April due to the resumption of group tours from March 15. Vietnam aims to welcome 110 million tourists, including eight million foreigners, and earn around VND650 trillion ($27.7 billion) from the sector this year. Vietnam’s “A Tourist’s Guide to Love,” a Hollywood film set in the country, ranked third in the list of globally most-watched movies on Netflix for April 17-23, attracting 13.4 million viewing hours and promoting local tourist spots. The Vietnamese government is proposing new policies on immigration, transit, and residence, including a visa extension to 90 days, to demonstrate the country’s warm welcome and support for international guests.
