Vietnam has recorded a significant increase in tourism numbers in the first quarter of 2021. Ho Chi Minh City welcomed 7.5 million domestic visitors and 1 million international arrivals, a growth rate of almost 60% and 100% respectively compared to the same period in 2020. Ba Ria-Vung Tau province saw a year-on-year increase of over 42%, welcoming 3.4 million visitors including over 48,000 international guests. In the Mekong Delta region, Kien Giang province welcomed nearly 2.3 million visitors, while Phu Quoc saw a growth rate of over 43%. Localities are focusing on diversifying their products and developing tourism in areas such as waterway, medical, cultural and culinary tourism. Vietravel recommends a focus on developing community culture, entertainment, cuisine and products associated with cultural and art programmes to attract visitors with higher spending.
