Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh called for continued support from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) to help the country overcome the damages incurred from the Vietnam War. He also urged USAID to prioritize its support for the mitigation of climate change in the Mekong Delta, which is the most affected area in Vietnam. The United States Ambassador to Vietnam, Marc Knapper, responded positively to the Prime Minister’s request and said that climate change is a top priority for the Biden administration and for USAID’s collaboration with Vietnam. US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin also expressed similar sentiments during his visit to Vietnam, stating that the United States is committed to working with Vietnam to address climate change and environmental protection.
