The Southeast Asian tourism industry is expected to see a boost from increasing numbers of Chinese tourists following the reopening of borders after the COVID-19 outbreak. Executive Director of Global Economics and Markets Research at United Overseas Bank, Suan Teck Kin, stated that this sector is a “bright spot” for the region in the current economic climate. In Vietnam, it has been reported that the number of tourists in the first two months of 2021 is encouraging and is a promising sign for the tourism and service sectors. The Vietnamese government is also considering extending the validity of e-visas and relaxing entry requirements to attract more foreign visitors.
