Vietnam has seen a significant increase in international tourist arrivals by sea in Q1 2023, with a rise of over 2.8 times between February and March alone. A total of 33,700 cruise passengers visited Vietnam from January to March 2023, marking a year-on-year increase of 936.3 times. Many cruise ships have visited localities across Vietnam, including Nha Trang, Da Nang, Ba Ria-Vung Tau, Ho Chi Minh City, and Quang Ninh. Challenges to further development of this growing market include a lack of ports able to accommodate larger cruise ships, a need for experienced personnel, and effective tourism promotion.
