The Vietnamese government plans to extend the duration of e-visas granted to foreign tourists visiting the country to three months to boost its tourism industry recovery. Currently, Vietnam offers a one-month single-entry e-visa to visitors from 280 countries, which has limited many tourists seeking longer stays. The new e-visa will be valid for single-entry or multiple entries. Citizens from 25 countries, including Germany, France and Japan, are already eligible for visa exemption. If the proposal passes in May, the exemption may be extended to more countries, including other European nations. The Vietnamese tourism industry has faced challenges due to the pandemic, and it is expected to solve problems in service quality to attract more tourists. Despite reopening borders in March last year, Vietnam welcomed only 3.6 million foreign tourists, down by 80% compared to before the pandemic.
