ITF Secretary-General Young Tae Kim will visit the Philippines and Cambodia during a one-week mission to Southeast Asia from 24 to 28 April.
The mission includes
- high-level meetings,
- a dissemination event for a completed ITF project on sustainable freight,
- a launch event for a new project on regional connectivity, and
- the launch of a new ITF report on “Regulating App-based Mobility Services in ASEAN”.
In the Philippines, the ITF team will present findings of the project “Decarbonising Pathways for Freight Transport in the Philippines” to high-level experts on 25 April and discuss recommendations to promote low-carbon freight transport in the Philippines. The dissemination event will be accompanied by a training session on ITF modelling tools and scenario analyses with staff of the Philippine Ministry of Transport on 24 April.
While in Manila, Secretary-General Kim will meet with Mr Jaime Bautiata, Secretary of the Philippines Department for Transportation. He will also have bilateral meetings with the Ambassador of Germany to the Philippines, the Chair of the Philippines’ Climate Change Commission, and the Chief of the Transport Sector Group ate the Asian Development Bank..
In Cambodia, the ITF team will launch the project “Enhancing Regional Freight Connectivity for Southeast Asia” on 28 April in Siem Reap. The project supports efforts to bridge existing connectivity gaps in the region with physical and soft measures in sustainable ways.
While in Siem Reap, Secretary-General Kim will hold a bilateral meeting with Mr Sun Chanthol, Minister of Public Works and Transport of Cambodia. Cambodia joined the International Transport Forum in May 2022.
The two studies carried out by ITF as part of the “Sustainable Infrastructure Programme in Asia” (SIPA), funded by the International Climate Initiative (IKI) of Germany’s Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU).
