A proposal for COVID vaccine passports is edging closer as states clash over a pathway out of the pandemic.
A national cabinet subcommittee which includes Victoria, the Northern Territory, Tasmania is drafting up a proposal to be presented on Friday.
Vaccine passports could see greater freedom of movement granted to vaccinated residents such as entry to restaurants, bars, sporting matches and travel.
Western Australia could take the most convincing since they have been leading the pushback – along with Queensland – about the reopening once the 80 per cent vaccination targets are reached.
This morning the federal government has again implored all premiers and chief ministers to stick to the plan to reopen the country which was agreed to at National Cabinet.
Treasurer Josh Frydenberg told Sky News Australia, “if we don’t open up at 70-80 per cent … when do we open up?”
“People need hope, and the plan is that hope.”
