Digital Travel Credentials to Be Piloted as Part of New EU Digital Identity Wallet Initiative

Signicat, SITA, and Indicio are partnering to pilot digital travel credentials within a new European Union (EU) Digital Identity Wallet (EUDIW) initiative. This collaboration aims to test the feasibility and functionality of using digital credentials for travel purposes, contributing to the development of a secure and user-friendly digital travel experience.

The pilot program will explore how digital travel credentials can be integrated into the EUDIW framework. This initiative is part of a broader EU effort to establish a digital identity solution that allows citizens to manage their identities and share personal data securely and conveniently across the Schengen Area.

Signicat, a provider of digital identity solutions, will bring its expertise in identity verification and digital signing. SITA, a leader in IT for the air transport industry, will contribute its knowledge of passenger processing and border control systems. Indicio, a digital identity and verifiable credentials specialist, will provide technical expertise in the implementation of decentralized identity solutions.

The testing will focus on enabling travelers to store and present verified digital travel documents through their EUDIW. This could include digital versions of passports, visas, and other necessary travel authorizations. The goal is to streamline the travel process, reduce reliance on physical documents, and enhance security through verified digital identities.

The EUDIW project aims to give EU citizens more control over their personal data and facilitate seamless access to digital public and private services. By extending this to travel, the pilot seeks to demonstrate the potential of digital identity wallets to transform the passenger journey from check-in to arrival.
