A Singapore-based Filipino software engineer, Denz Del Villar, has created a web app called My Philippines Travel Level, which allows users to indicate how well-travelled they are within the country. The resulting social media buzz included endorsements from personalities such as Macoy Dubs and former vice president Leni Robredo, and has been visited over 2.3 million times. The app works by allowing users to click on a province and label it depending on how much time they had spent there: Lived There (5), Stayed There (4), Visited There (3), Alighted There (2), Passed There (1), Never Been There (0). Del Villar relied heavily on the AI chatbot ChatGPT to help him develop the site, although he recognised its limitations when he asked it a query regarding a feature where users could share maps directly on their Instagram stories. The chatbot gave him a programming package for React Native, which does not support the website, and it became clear that, as with any tool, reliance on ChatGPT must be mitigated by independent research.
