Online travel agency kimkim’s head of product, Yenyi Fu, used AI chatbot ChatGPT to plan a 10-day Costa Rica vacation for her family of four. However, Fu found the itinerary contained several logistical errors and lacked the level of personalisation suitable for a family with young children. Travel adviser Brittany McNamara said the proposed travel plan, which suggested touring five locations in 10 days, was too much for a family with young children. McNamara also questioned the bot’s choice of luxury adult-only hotels, rather than family-friendly accommodation. While the AI had impressive knowledge, Fu said it can’t book holidays, nor replace the expertise and personal experience offered by human travel advisers.
