A recent article explored the use of generative artificial intelligence to plan travel itineraries. The author created two alter egos and tasked the latest version of Open AI’s chatbot, Chat GPT-4, with planning a family-friendly trip with young children, a mental health escape on a budget, and a crowd-free trip to Europe. While the bot was able to make good recommendations, it was not foolproof, and the author stated that AI is not yet trustworthy enough to make travel plans with high stakes. As a preliminary planning tool, though, it can be satisfying and foster a sense of discovery.
