Expedia has introduced a beta ChatGPT interface in its iOS app to aid in vacation planning. Using natural language processing, the chatbot can suggest hotels and activities based on user preferences, budget, and length of stay, and can compare different locales and hotels. Users can then take the responses and create a travel plan in the main Expedia app. Expedia Group CEO Peter Kern said the technology had been developed through a partnership with OpenAI. However, the company also cautioned that users may receive inaccurate results or inappropriate responses, and the chatbot would be updated accordingly. Expedia Group owns multiple travel companies and has access to a vast data set of hotel, flight, and car rental information.
