The Central Bank of Brazil (BCB) has opted to leave interest rates on hold, disappointing hopes of a dovish approach. Officials at TD Securities believe the central bank’s hawkish decision will lead to delays in expected cuts towards Q3 of 2023, while the USD is expected to strengthen towards BRL5.15 in response. The bank cited higher inflation forecasts and “unanchored” inflation expectations as the reason for its decision.
