A major report on the future of New Zealand’s borders has indicated that vaccinated Kiwis will be able to make short trips overseas next year. So how will you be able to prove that you’re fully vaccinated and eligible for travel?

All Kiwis receive a vaccine record card – but this won’t be enough for international travel.
While everyone in New Zealand receives a vaccine record card after they’ve been vaccinated, this only contains very basic information, and can’t be used as proof for international travel.
But a formal vaccine certificate is on the way. Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern this week told TVNZ’s Breakfast that the Government is “working on documents trying to identify people who have been vaccinated so you can move around”.

According to the Ministry of Health website, these digital certificates are expected to be available later this year.
But until they are finalised, the best way to get formal proof you’ve been vaccinated for international travel is to request a vaccination confirmation letter from the Ministry of Health.

The IATA Travel Pass will store Covid-19 test results and vaccine certificates.
This letter includes your personal details – though you’ll need to make sure that the information your healthcare provider has matches what is in your passport – plus the name of the vaccine you had, the batch number, the number of doses you’ve received and the dates they were administered.
