The Government is believed to be close to finalising a date for the issuing of EU Digital Vaccination Certs which will allow for indoor dining and international travel from July 19th.
Up to 1.8m fully vaccinated Irish people can expect to be issued with the certs by email and by post shortly – with the initial roll-out possibly starting by the end of this week.
Those vaccinated through the HSE portal can expect to receive a cert by email which they can then keep on their phones or print out as needed.
If you were vaccinated by a pharmacy or doctor, a letter will be posted to your home with a unique code. This code can then be scanned into your smartphone and generate at cert.
With a projected 2 million people to be fully vaccinated by the end of this month – and hopes that all Irish people over 18 can be vaccinated by the start of September – the cert should facilitate the return to international travel.
It will also be used to access indoor hospitality, with the Government and the main representative groups for pubs and restaurants due to meet again on Thursday to finalise a plan for opening further on July 19th.
There are already similar systems in operation across Europe – such as Denmark’s digital ‘Coronapas’.
