A provincial vaccine passport ‘best thing we can do right now,’ Mayor John Tory urges Doug Ford, Aug. 12
Whatever justification a vaccine passport might have had is now mooted by the Delta variant. The evidence shows fully vaccinated individuals are about as likely to transmit the Delta variant as the unvaccinated.
While it’s true that being fully vaccinated offers a degree of personal protection from serious harm, the idea it will lead to herd immunity is less certain. Current vaccines don’t appear to slow the spread of the Delta variant.
We don’t need vaccine passports, whether provincially to eat indoors or federally to travel. We need our governments to follow the evidence and keep restrictions in place for everyone until the pandemic is beaten.
The virulent Delta variant makes that harder, but its increased deadliness makes it essential.
