Germany is making significant strides to simplify visa processes for skilled workers, according to the country’s foreign minister, Annalena Baerbock. Notably, visa waiting times at the German embassy in New Delhi have been cut from nine months to two weeks, largely due to advances in digitalization and centralization. The foreign ministry aims to fully digitalize the visa procedure by the close of next year’s legislative period. Ministry estimates suggest the issuance of national visas must rise by 63% to facilitate around 400,000 individuals per year to maintain stable employment levels in Germany. Further plans to hasten visa issuance are being contemplated.
