Last year, TTG explored the industry’s perceived “dependence” on alcohol, and the effects of this from both a health and inclusivity perspective.
More than half of the nearly 100 respondents to a snap TTG poll on the subject agreed it was time to reassess the industry’s relationship with alcohol, while 37% said they disagreed.
The debate was sparked by TravelTime World director Ashley Quint, who wrote candidly for TTG on his experiences, especially during conference season, and urged the industry to “follow changing societal attitudes”.
“We need to make people feel like travel is somewhere they want to call home,” Quint said in April last year. “I’m not suggesting you shouldn’t drink, just to remember what the impact is on others.”
Meanwhile, Kolosinska and Holiday Extras national retail manager Lindsay Garvey-Jones, who have both quit drinking, warned of the stigma surrounding non-drinkers.
“It would be amazing to change the narrative on those who wish to stay sober, but it may take time,” said Garvey-Jones.
