AN Irish bar owner in Tenerife has said “banning tourists is not the way to go” ahead of a protest due to take place on the island.
Locals in the sun-kissed Spanish islands of Tenerife, Lanzarote and Gran Canaria are claiming that tourism is destroying their economy.
A protest is set to take place in Tenerife on Saturday under the slogan ‘The Canaries have a limit’.
Residents are planning to protest against tourism on the island and aim to halt the construction of two new hotels.
They are also demanding that locals are given more of a lay when it comes to development and the natural landscape of the island.
Locals are now travelling further distances as the lack of housing in popular areas due to the development of hotels which is leading to their frustration and protests.
