Nearly two thirds of travel firms say they will lay off more than a fifth of their staff without a clear roadmap from Boris Johnson for reopening travel, a poll of the industry has found.
This would equate to about 500,000 jobs, according to the survey of 255 travel businesses by the new campaign group Save our Summer (SOS).
The survey found that 60 per cent said that they expected to lay off 20 per cent of staff if furlough ended in April and travel remained restricted over the Summer.
More than a third (37 per cent) said they expected to lay off more than 40 per cent of their staff without furlough and a clear roadmap for reopening the travel sector after May 1.
