Wembley stadium is due to host seven matches this summer, including England v Scotland, both semi-finals and the tournament final. England’s opening match against Croatia is due to be played on June 13.
The Mayor is lobbying Uefa to allow domestic fans to take as many seats as social distancing rules allow if, as expected, travelling fans from abroad are not permitted to attend the matches. This would include the latter matches at Wembley even if England were knocked out.
The tournament is being held for the first time across 12 European cities, with the decision on each stadium’s capacity being determined by respective governments. Uefa has set a deadline of early April for each host city to reveal its plans.
