KEARNEY — Nebraska tourism is a force to be reckoned with, producing $4.45 billion in 2023, with $994 million flowing to the state’s attractions and lodging and hospitality businesses.
Last year, Nebraska hosted 12.6 million overnight guests, and many of them stayed at hotels in the Kearney-Buffalo County area.
“Today’s visitors are tomorrow’s Nebraskans,” said John Ricks, executive director of the Nebraska tourism Commission and architect of the state’s much-talked about tourism slogan: “Nebraska, honestly it’s not for everyone.”
Ricks spoke Tuesday to about 75 people at Yanney Heritage Park’s new pavilion. The crowd came to kick off Kearney’s summer tourism season and learn what’s in store as several major construction projects aimed at boosting tourism get under way.
