Gov. Charlie Baker, just hours after teasing that a vaccine passport was coming “soon,” abruptly changed course — saying he was never in favor of a mandatory passport for businesses like restaurants and shops.
If Baker drilling down on his vaccine comments proves one thing, it’s that the governor should not be making major policy announcements on the fly on some radio interview.
The Republican governor “is not and has never been in favor of a statewide so-called vaccine passport mandate and does not support requiring that businesses or other organizations restrict access based on vaccination status,” a spokeswoman said.
“I’ve never supported or agreed to any sort of statewide vaccine program,” Baker said Tuesday. “I don’t now and I don’t plan to going forward.”
So why float it in the first place?
Baker showed off his own QR code passport on his phone during his usual hard-hitting interview with WGBH on Monday.
“Here’s my QR code,” Baker said….
