Last July, I wrote about the sad story of 23-year-old Adelaide Schrowang, who created quite a disturbance before being removed by police officers from a Delta Air Lines flight. Police body cam footage has emerged, giving us further insight into the situation.
Delta Air Lines Passenger Incident Highlights Remarkable Police Restraint (Body Cam Footage)
While most disturbances onboard aircraft are shared via mobile phone video from other passengers, in this case we have that and police body cam footage of the entire incident, which was posted to Facebook.
This video was first discovered by Eye of the Flyer but View From the Wing reminded me of the incident.
Schrowang appeared to be heavily intoxicated, babbling to police about her rights and yet somehow coherent enough to seize and twist upon the words of the cops to try to cut herself a deal and avoid arrest.

Interestingly, we see the police go out of their way to be gracious and kind despite her questionable mental state which seems to be impacted by alcohol or drugs.
(side note – as much as I hate the ubiquity of our surveillance state, I do appreciate that body cams not only hold police accountable, but encourage police officers to be more magnanimous and attempt to de-escalate situations, since such technology promotes greater accountability)
Even after her leading her off the plane, downstairs to the tarmac, and away in a police vehicle, she is still treated kindly…despite her continued belligerence. At one point, she pulls the “my mother is a social worker” card as if that will help her case.
CONCLUSION
I found the video fascinating and it makes me appreciate those flight attendants and law enforcement officers who can de-escalate tensions rather than exaggerate them. Well done to the Florida cops who turned an explosive situation into a manageable one….
