Emirates airline has announced a bonus payout to its employees, with around AED 1 billion ($272.2 million) being distributed to more than 80,000 staff members. The bonus payment, which ranges from two to four months’ worth of salary, is being attributed to the strong financial performance of the company over the past year. Emirates has reported a net profit of AED 8.2 billion ($2.2 billion) for the fiscal year ending in March 2019, an increase of 21% from the previous year. This marks the 31st consecutive year that the airline has recorded a profit. In addition, Emirates’ revenue has increased by 6% to AED 109 billion ($29.7 billion), driven by a 2% increase in passenger traffic and a 3% increase in average revenue per passenger. The airline also managed to keep its costs under control, with fuel costs decreasing by 3% compared to the previous year. The bonus payout comes as welcome news to Emirates’ employees, who have recently faced several challenges, including job cuts and a shift in the airline’s business strategy. Emirates’ owner, the Investment Corporation of Dubai, has also indicated a willingness to provide additional support to the airline if necessary. Emirates’ CEO, Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, highlighted the importance of the company’s employees in achieving its strong financial results, stating that “our employees continue to deliver our strategy and drive our business performance.”
