In a move to boost its struggling tourism industry, South Korea has announced the suspension of electronic travel authorisation requirements for nationals from 22 visa-waiver countries until next year. This includes countries such as Canada, Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore, Taiwan, the UK and the US. Transit passengers from 34 countries, including the US and the EU, will also be allowed to stay for up to 30 days. Additionally, Chinese group tours visiting Jeju Island can stay for up to five days without visas and buy Korean train tickets with Alipay or WeChat Pay from next month. The Korean tourism industry has been seriously impacted by the coronavirus pandemic.
