The Jeong-dong Club was a group of activists fighting for the independence of Joseon (Korea) in the early 1900s. Visitors to Seoul can now take a one-hour walking tour to experience what it was like to be a member of the club. Starting at City Hall Station, the tour includes stops at several cultural sites, such as the Seoul Museum of Art and the National Jeongdong Theater of Korea. Other attractions include the Sontag Hotel Site, where activists met with diplomats and missionaries, and the Appenzeller Noble Memorial Museum, housed in the East Building of Paichai School, the first modern Western-style secondary education institute in Korea. The tour culminates at the Jeongdong First Methodist Church, which served as a progressive space beyond the religious meaning, and was even the site of the first Western-style modern wedding in Korea. The tour provides a unique opportunity to learn about the history of the Jeong-dong Club and the fight for Korean independence.
