Spring is here and South Korea is set to celebrate with a range of festivals that showcase blooming flowers and the country’s cultural heritage. The Gunpo Royal Azalea Festival will take place from April 28 to 30 around Royal Azalea Park in Gunpo, Gyeonggi Province. The three-day festival features programmes including a ceramics exhibition, food trucks, Seojong Korean Music Orchestra and Gunpo Prime Philharmonic Orchestra. The Damyang Bamboo Festival will run from May 3 to 7 at the Juknokwon Bamboo Forest and Gwangbangjerim Forest in Damyang, South Jeolla Province. The annual festival celebrates the beauty of Damyang’s bamboo forest, featuring programmes that include bamboo rafting, fishing with bamboo baskets, bamboo foot baths and more. Running until May 7 is the Taean World Tulip Flower Festival at Korea Flower Park in Taean, South Chungcheong Province. Recognised as one of the world’s top five tulip festivals by the World Tulip Society, visitors can enjoy the sight of colourful tulips among creative and entertaining backdrops. The Miryang Arirang Festival, the 65th edition, will be held from May 18-21 along the Miryang riverside and at the Yeongnamnu Pavilion in Miryang, South Gyeongsang Province. The four-day event promotes the Miryang style of Arirang, a national folk song. Finally, taking place from May 4 to 7 in Yeoncheon, Gyeonggi Province, the Yeoncheon Paleolithic Festival presents relics that date back to the Paleolithic Age. Programs are open to visitors of all ages and range from a Paleolithic barbecue to an archaeology academy and archery.
