Kochi: Greater Cochin Development Authority (GCDA) will soon start a Tourism Information System project to map tourism and heritage spots in the city.The project will be implemented in areas under the jurisdiction of GCDA.The project is mainly aimed at mapping tourist destinations to provide information to visitors, about major and minor tourist attractions such as places of worship, heritage sites, historically important locations, scenic islands, cultural sites, trekking areas, etc. GCDA has already allocated Rs 25 lakh for the implementation of the project. GCDA sources said the project is expected to give a boost to the development of village tourism and the growth of the region by introducing the major attractions of the area to outside world.The project is being implemented in collaboration with the department of tourism. Tourism information plays a critical role in Kochi’s urban development through economic growth, infrastructure investment, preservation of cultural heritage, promotion of destination marketing and nurturing of sustainable tourism practices. By harnessing tourism as a catalyst for positive change, it is believed that Kochi can enhance its competitiveness, attractiveness and resilience and create vibrant and inclusive urban destinations for residents and visitors alike, says the budget document of GCDA that proposed the project.
