This initiative aims to enrich the travel experience for Indian tourists by providing them with familiar payment options during their stay, PhonePe said in a statement.
Ritesh Pai, Chief Executive Officer of PhonePe’s International Business said, “Partnering with STB will facilitate ease of transactions for PhonePe users who now can just pay directly from their existing bank account by scanning a QR code when visiting the island-city.”
Here’s a guide to help users make the most of this payment option:
Step 1: Download the PhonePe App. The app is free to download and is compatible with most smartphones.
Step 2: Once users have installed the PhonePe app, they can proceed to link the bank account to the app.
Step 3: Upon arriving at any of the 8,000+ participating merchants in Singapore, customers can scan the provided QR code using the PhonePe app. This QR code acts as a gateway for initiating UPI transactions.
Step 4: After scanning the QR code, users will be prompted to enter the payment amount and any additional details required by the merchant.
Step 5: Once users have entered the payment details, they should review the transaction summary displayed on the PhonePe app. If everything looks good, they can proceed to confirm the payment by entering the UPI PIN.
Generally, UPI transactions made through PhonePe do not incur additional charges for users.
However, it’s essential to check with the bank to see if they impose any fees for international transactions or currency conversion.
When making payments in a foreign country like Singapore, currency conversion charges may apply.
These charges are typically imposed by bank or card issuer and may vary depending on the prevailing exchange rates and the terms of the account.
