An Israeli couple was arrested in Thailand following an incident of public indecency at a popular waterfall in Chiang Mai. The arrest took place on Sunday after footage of the couple engaging in sexual acts at Pha Chor waterfall circulated widely on social media, having surfaced on Saturday.
The incident sparked outrage among locals and tourists, prompting an immediate investigation by park rangers. Police located the couple at their accommodation and subsequently brought them to Mae Taeng Police Station. There, the couple confessed to the acts depicted in the video.
The pair has been charged under Article 388 of the Criminal Code for obscenity and public indecency. Each individual was fined 500 baht, totaling 1,000 baht. In addition to the fines, the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation has indicated its intention to blacklist the couple, preventing them from re-entering Thailand in the future.
