By Horace Palacio: Belize’s overnight tourism industry is booming, with the first two months of 2024 setting historic records and the sector positioned to generate an unprecedented $1.4 billion in revenue this year, announced tourism Minister Anthony Mahler.
During his recent budget debate presentation, Mahler revealed that overnight tourist arrivals surged by over 16% in January and February compared to the same period last year. He expects this trend to continue, fueling an overall 11% growth for the entire tourism sector in 2024.
“We’re significantly outpacing global tourism growth,” Mahler stated. January 2024 was the best January on record with 57,000 arrivals, followed by February’s all-time high of 59,000. With a projected 10% increase for March, Belize is poised to welcome over 60,000 visitors – a landmark for the country’s tourism industry.
