The clock is ticking down toward the NFL Draft in downtown Detroit, and Christopher Moyer, a top tourism official in the city, believes the city is ready.
Moyer is the senior director of communications for Visit Detroit, the organization formerly known as Detroit Metro Convention & Visitors Bureau. Visit Detroit promotes Metro Detroit regionally, nationally and internationally as a convention, business meeting and tourism destination.
Could the draft be a preview of future events to come to Detroit? Moyer calls it “an audition.” An estimated 400,000 visitors are expected to converge on the city.
“This is an audition for future events,” Moyer said.
The Detroit News chatted with Moyer recently about the city’s big moment in the spotlight, how it’ll compare to last year’s draft in Kansas City and how this moment will be different than when Detroit hosted the Super Bowl in 2006.
