An Air Canada flight bound for Paris with 389 passengers and 13 crew members experienced an engine fire just minutes after taking off from Toronto Pearson International Airport on Friday.
The Boeing 777, which departed at 12:17 am (Toronto time), encountered a critical situation at 12:39 am as it was ascending over the runway. Air traffic controllers spotted sparks and flames coming from the plane’s right engine, prompting the crew to declare a “PAN-PAN” distress signal, signaling a need for urgent assistance.
The aircraft made a safe emergency return to Toronto, with no injuries reported among the passengers and crew.
