It’s a tale that could pass as a binge-worthy crime drama on Netflix, but a heist that occurred more than a year ago at Canada’s largest airport, whereby nearly $24 million in gold and cash was stolen from an Air Canada warehouse, has led to real-life outcomes.
On January 20, the Federal Court ordered Air Canada to pay Brink’s, a security company, just over $18,000 in relation to a gold shipment worth $20 million that was stolen at Toronto Pearson airport (YYZ) in the spring of 2023.
Inadequate paperwork on the stolen goods means the airline only needs to pay general compensation, the ruling found.
