Air India Baggage Allowance Limit Reduces for Economy Tickets

Air India has announced a decrease in the free baggage allowance for its lowest fare bracket, reducing the allowed weight from 20 kg to 15 kg. The change is part of the Tata Group’s broader aim to revitalize the airline.

Air India’s New Baggage Policy

Since Tata Group’s takeover in 2022, Air India’s baggage policy has seen many changes. Previously, the airline allowed 25 kg of free baggage, which was reduced to 20 kg last year. This latest revision brings Air India closer to other carriers’ regular baggage limitations. While some budget airlines restrict tourists to a single piece of luggage, Air India allows multiple bags as long as the overall weight does not exceed the permitted limit.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) mandates airlines to allow at least 15 kg of free checked baggage.
