A new chapter begins by bidding adieu to the old one. This time, Air India waved goodbye to its iconic Boeing 747 aircraft. The renowned aircraft departed for one last time on Monday from the Mumbai Airport.
Air India’s Boeing 747 Took Off For The Final Time!
Taking to X, CSMIA (@CSMIA_Official) shared some memorable glimpses of staff waving goodbye to the legendary aircraft at the Mumbai airport.
Today, we wave goodbye to the first of our last ‘Queen of the Skies’, the B747, departing Mumbai.

After a list of significant changes, Air India moved ahead with the iconic Boeing 747. The flight took to the skies for one last time on April 22. The first of the airline’s ‘Queen of the Skies’ departed today morning marking the end of its memorable stint for years and decades. While taking off and flying to its destination, the iconic jumbo jet performed a ‘Wing Wave’ manoeuvre as well. It was quite impressive to witness. The airline shared visuals of the final journey thanking the aircraft “for an era of majestic flights”. “We’ll miss your iconic presence,” shared Air India.
There are a total of two Boeing 747 aircraft that are in proper state of affairs One of these jumbo jets took off for the final time on Monday. Another one is likely to depart and bid adieu for the last time shortly. The remaining two Boeing 747 aircraft will not take off. According to a report by Hindustan Times, these two will be dismantled. This will be done in Mumbai.

It was long back on March 22, 1971, when Air India got the first Boeing 747, according to a report by Business Today. The aircraft started to operate on May 21, 1971, and the schedule was flying to London from India, four times a week. From 1971 to 2024, it has been a historical journey.
