Air India Express cancelled some of its flights on Wednesday due to problems with its staff rostering system. Seven Air India Express flights for the period between 1.50 am and 8 pm have been cancelled at the Delhi airport for Wednesday, PTI quoted sources as saying. While there were also flight cancellations at a few other airports, the total number of flight cancellations could not be immediately ascertained.
The most recent flight cancellation occurred a week after the airline experienced delays as a result of some cabin crew members reporting sick in protest of the carrier’s purported mismanagement. The strike was called off on May 8 and the crew members who were on strike returned to duty by May 11.
The airline, which is controlled by the Tata Group and typically runs 380 flights a day, has switched to a new rostering system. According to the reports, the system’s problems are affecting the scheduling for cabin crew and pilots.

According to an official, the airline operated about 345 flights on Tuesday, and no flights were cancelled.
Following a settlement meeting organised by the chief labor commissioner in the nation’s capital, the carrier retracted termination letters sent to 25 cabin crew members and called off the strike on May 8.
The meeting was attended by representatives of the airline and Air India Express Employees Union (AIXEU).
In a release on May 12, the union said all the cabin crew who had reported sick have joined back and “as such there is no delay on the part of the cabin crew”.
“All the cabin crew members who reported sick have joined their duty by May 11, 2024. However, due to a glitch in the company’s scheduling software as it was recently introduced, it is still showing that staff are reported sick,” it had said.
